Crushed cans.

The crushed can.

An iconic Kimberley metaphor

Time spent walking the streets of Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Broome over the years was marked by these souvenirs. Characterised by the way they had been crushed into the pindan dirt, and the place they occupied in the landscape, they became personified, speaking of the lives they skimmed across and had been discarded by. They became useful studies for media and technique testing, like small art practice rituals. I returned them to the roadside over a three-week period in 2018; an abandoned art exhibition, my virtual cans hoped for adoption and elevation from rubbish to art.
