Biography

Living on Yawuru country in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, Naomie Hatherley is a multidisciplinary artist/mother/educator who works across painting, drawing, sculpture, video, performance and textiles.

Drawing inspiration from art history and experiences living in regional Western Australia, her practice is concerned with the physical embodiment of the female form in space, and is rooted in a curiosity about the intersection of body language, thought and experience.

Making use of materials embedded with time, Naomie’s artmaking aims to reposition the female body as a source of power and awe through ritual, repetition and movement to challenge her own internal conditioning and the narratives that shape an individual, gendered and national identity.

Naomie Hatherley completed an MVA (Monash 2012), a Bachelor of Arts/Fine Arts (UWA, 1994).
